The Luchador Podcast

Podcast Art

For this project, I was contracted to create visual covers for an audio drama podcast following the story of a luchador named El Fuego Fuerte. The brief was to design a primary cover that captured both the character's identity and the overall tone of the show — a classic noir-style drama packed with action and adventure.

The Visual Identity of El Fuego Fuerte

El Fuego Fuerte needed a luchador mask, a classic 70s suit, a flame aesthetic, and that perfect balance of tough-as-nails with a heart of gold. I kept the colors muted so his name and energy could do the talking, with a neutral blue grounds him in the noir world, while the red mask and flame-detailed tie give him his visual punch. The mask was the most important piece, it's a symbol of who he is and the fire that ignites his iron will.

Since he's a wrestler, I had to make the suit work for his build. I tightened it around the biceps and shoulders so you can feel the size on him without losing the suit's shape, and slightly enlarged his hands as another visual reference to his build.

I was also contracted to create a thumbnail cover for the first season of The Luchador podcast. The goal was to give each season its own distinct cover that reflects the story and setting — and season one wasted no time setting a dark tone, throwing El Fuego Fuerte and his trusty tag-team partner, Lobo Sangre, into a world of Aztec vampires, mobsters, and serious tests of their morality.

Season 1 Cover

The cover also introduced a second character: Lobo Sangre, El Fuego Fuerte's trusty tag-team partner. Where El Fuego Fuerte is formal and imposing, Lobo Sangre is leaner, more agile, and far less buttoned-up. I kept his look simple — a t-shirt and jeans — to contrast the two characters. Martial arts poses and stances reinforced his agility, his mask took on a wolf-inspired design, and his color palette tied back to his name — Lobo Sangre, meaning "Blood Wolf" in Spanish.
